On May 23, 1928, singer and actress Rosemary Clooney was born in Maysville, Kentucky.

One of five children, she and several of her siblings became successful entertainers, as did their children. Today, her nephew, George Clooney, is one of the most highly sought after stars in Hollywood.

A successful jazz vocalist, Clooney first rose to prominence in the early 1950s with the hit “Come On-a My House” and followed up with many more hits, including “Mambo Italiano,” “Tenderly,” and “This Ole House.” In 1955, she starred alongside Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, and Vera-Ellen in the classic holiday movie White Christmas.

Throughout her career, Clooney experienced many ups and downs due to her battle with bipolar disorder and addiction. In 1994, her guest-starring role on her nephew George’s hit show ER earned Clooney an Emmy award nomination for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series.

Clooney died on June 29, 2002 at the age of 74.
