Clooney was born on May 6, 1961 in Lexington, Kentucky to Nina Warren, a former city councilwoman, and Nick Clooney, an anchorman and television host. His aunt was singer and actress Rosemary Clooney. With a family in the entertainment business, it was no surprise that Clooney would also catch the acting bug.
After getting his start in small roles on television, Clooney finally caught his big break when he was cast on the television series ER in 1994. He later successfully made the transition to the big screen with several box office hits. Not only did Clooney become an A-list movie star, but he also earned critical acclaim as a director. Throughout his career, he has received 8 Academy Award nominations, winning 2. Fun fact: he is the second person ever to be nominated in six different Academy Award categories. The first was Walt Disney, who is his 11th cousin once removed.
