At the end of March, as a gesture to our users who are isolated at home, we unlocked our highly popular automatic black and white photo colorization feature, MyHeritage InColor
, for free and unlimited use for the next month. We also challenged our users from around the globe to share their colorized photos with us using the hashtag #ColorBeatsCoronavirusBlues for a chance to win a free Complete subscription to MyHeritage. We have been selecting a new winner each week.
This week, we’ve seen even more incredible entries: wedding photos, childhood photos, photos of ancestors at work and in military uniform, all brought vividly to life by colorization.
Here are some of our favorites from this week:

I never met my granddad (bottom right). He died a long time before I was born and, although I have a few photos of him, I’ve never seen him in colour so it’s hard to picture him in my mind. So many stunning entries! This week’s prize, however, goes to this beautiful entry from Jennifer Wilson of West Virginia:
One of the things I love about @MyHeritage is connecting with cousins I've never met. I'd never seen this photo of my mother before (she's on the left) until a 3rd cousin e-mailed it to me. #colorbeatscoronavirusblues pic.twitter.com/YZPzNcgjb6

Jennifer submitted multiple entries this week, each of them with a lovely photo and an intriguing story to go with it:
Black and white of my mother and cousin on the Chesapeake about 1962. What's super special about this? Sent it to a cousin who we have been estranged, and she messaged me back. It's a start. Thanks so much Mom in heaven and @MyHeritage #colorbeatscoronavirusblues pic.twitter.com/bfPLHdp0dy

I never met my grandfather, he died 5 years before I was born. But here he is in his volunteer fireman dress shirt. My dad followed in his footsteps and was a volunteer fireman for 50 years until his death. #ColorBeatsCoronavirusBlues @MyHeritage #firefighters pic.twitter.com/BUEMod4g09

I never met my great-grandfather, who was a WWI veteran, and I don't remember my great-grandmother who died three months after I was born, but this photo colorized turns them from just faces into family. #colorbeatscoronavirusblues @MyHeritage pic.twitter.com/AZ4ESqJFan

Many thanks to all who entered this week. If you have more to share, or haven’t shared your colorized photos with us yet — now is the time. This coming week will be the fourth and final week of the contest. Only 10 days left to enjoy free, unlimited access to MyHeritage InColor
, so be sure to make them count!
To enter the contest, simply colorize your favorite black and white family photo with MyHeritage InColor
, post the result on your favorite social media platform with the hashtag #ColorBeatsCoronavirusBlues, and tell us a little about the photo. You just might be the next to win a free Complete subscription to MyHeritage — which, by the way, would grant you unlimited access to MyHeritage InColor
long after our special offer ends on April 22.
We look forward to seeing your entries!
