Happy birthday to Lady Gaga! Today the star turns 33.
She was born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta on March 28, 1986 in Manhattan, New York. From a very young age, she showed a talent for music. She learned to play the piano at the age of 4 and was encouraged by her parents to pursue her talent. At 17, she gained early admission to NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, but withdrew after her sophomore year to focus on her music career.
Performing under the stage name Lady Gaga, she became an international star with her debut album The Fame in 2008. Since launching to pop stardom, Lady Gaga has become one of the best-selling artists in history and has won 9 Grammy Awards. Her success has also followed her to the big screen. In 2018, she starred in the critically acclaimed film, A Star is Born, for which she earned her first Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Although she didn’t win Best Actress, she did go home with the Academy Award for Best Original Song for the film’s single, “Shallow.”
