Douglas was born on September 25, 1944 in New Brunswick, New Jersey to acclaimed actor Kirk Douglas and Diana Dill. His mother came from a prominent family in Bermuda, where Douglas’s maternal grandfather, Thomas Melville Dill, served as Attorney General of Bermuda and as a member of the Parliament of Bermuda.

As the son of actors, it was natural for Douglas to pursue a career in entertainment. He first gained fame on television with a role in the TV series The Streets of San Francisco. In 1975, he found success as a producer of the film One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture and earned Douglas his first Oscar. He would go on to star in several critically acclaimed films and box office hits throughout his long career, including Romancing the StoneWall Street, and Ant-Man.

Recently, Douglas has also made a return to television. Just this past weekend, he made an appearance at the 71st Emmy Awards, where he was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in the Netflix comedy, The Kominsky Method.

Fun fact: Douglas shares his birthday with his wife, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones. Today she turns 50!
