Profile of the Day: Reba McEntire

Happy birthday to country music legend Reba McEntire! Today the popular singer turns 67. Since getting her start singing on local radio shows in high school, McEntire has become one of the best-selling artists of all time.

Reba Nell McEntire was born on March 28, 1955 in McAlester, Oklahoma to Clark Vincent McEntire and Jacqueline Smith. Her father and paternal grandfather were both champion steer ropers. In fact, her father was the World Champion Steer Roper three times. Growing up, the family was often on the road traveling for her father’s rodeo shows. During this time, McEntire and her siblings would write and perform songs together.

Since releasing her first single in 1976, McEntire has found great success at the top of the country music charts and has earned the nickname, the “Queen of Country.” In addition to her award-winning music career, McEntire has successfully segued into acting. For six seasons, she was the star of her own sitcom, Reba.

Just last night, McEntire performed the Best Original Song nominee “Somehow You Do” from the movie Four Good Days at the 94th Academy Awards. Did you catch her performance?
