Wright was born on April 16, 1867 near Millville, Indiana to Milton Wright, a Bishop in the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, and Susan Koerner. The third of seven children, Wright and his brother developed a fascination for aviation at an early age when his father came home with toy helicopter for his sons. This early interest would lead to their lifelong passion for aeronautics.
Together, the brothers developed the world’s first working airplane and made the first successful man-powered airplane flight on December 17, 1903.
