Profile of the Day: Céline Dion

Happy birthday to Céline Dion! Today the French-Canadian singer turns 53.

She was born on March 30, 1968 in Charlemagne, Quebec, Canada to a large family. The youngest of 14 children, Dion’s upbringing was always filled with music. She made her first public performance at the age of 5, performing with her siblings in her parents’ small piano bar. With dreams to become a singer, Dion signed her first recording contract at the age of 12. By the age of 18, she had recorded nine French albums and won numerous awards.

In 1992, she catapulted to mainstream stardom after recording the theme song to the Disney film, Beauty and the Beast. The famous song “Beauty and the Beast” would win a Grammy and an Academy Award. Today she is considered one of the best selling artists of all time with more than 200 albums sold worldwide and numerous hits, including “My Heart Will Go On,” “If You Asked Me To,” and “The Power of Love.”
