The legendary performer was born on March 12, 1946 in Hollywood, California to actress Judy Garland and director Vincente Minnelli. With famous parents, it was not a surprise that Minnelli would follow them into show business. At the age of 3, Minnelli made her first film performance in the musical In the Good Old Summertime, starring her mother.
Minnelli won her first Tony award at the age of 19 for her performance in Flora the Red Menace. Since then, Minnelli has forged her own formidable career outside of her mother’s shadow. Not only has she built a long lasting career as a musical performer, but she has also earned acclaim for her work on the big and small screen. She rose to international stardom with her role in the film, Cabaret, which also earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress. In 1973, she won an Emmy Award for her television special Liza with a Z.
